Step 2
Now, tell the AI and then share with it any ideas you might have for your story. Is your story set in space, or perhaps it takes place in modern-day New York City? You want to share any and all ideas you have for your story so that the AI can help you craft YOUR story. You can share as many or as few ideas as you want. Just remember the more details you provide, the more likely the AI will be to craft the story that you have in mind.
Once you’ve completed this step, you’ll have a completed outline for your book. Let’s take a look at a sample outline I produced for a book called “Betrayal,” which falls in the detective mystery or crime thriller genre.

This particular story has 30 chapters. Yours may have more or less; it really just depends on what kind of story you are writing and how information you feed the Enchanting Letters AI. Everyone’s experience and story are unique. What the Enchanting Letters AI writes for me won’t be the same as what it writes for you because we all have different stories to tell, and we start with different parameters and details.
Step 3
Once you’ve written your outline, it’s time to take a deep dive into the story itself. You should adjust your outline to fit your own narrative. While AI is great, it won’t always produce exactly what you had in mind, so at that point, you can tweak any part of the story that you want. Don’t like the name of a character? This is the time to change it. I wished the story had a different ending. This is when you want to make those changes as well. If you want to come up with some additional plot twists, you can do that now. There is a section from the menu that allows you to do just that.
Genereate Plot Twists
Once you have your initial book outline, you only have to enter three things to have the Enchanting Letters AI generate some plot twists for you. You fill out the form with these three things:
- Your Book Genre
- Your Book Summary
- Your Current Book Outline
Once you provide Enchanting Letters AI with this information and press submit, it will begin to generate some new ideas for you.
Sometimes the Ai can be a little wonky so don’t be afraid to ask it to do it again, to get bettre results.
If you like any of the plot twists, you can work them into your book outline yourself or return to the AI book outline generator. Include what you currently have (book genre, summary, and outline), add the plot twists you want, and click submit. At that point, it will produce a new book outline for you with the requested changes.
Develop Character Profiles
I like to develop backstories of my characters. Not everyone does this, and if you don’t, feel free to skip this step. But for me, I want to really know who my characters are, because it helps me come up with new ideas for my story. To develop your own character profiles, you can click the develop character profiles link from the main menu and provide the Enchanting Letters AI with the following information.
- Your Book Genre
- Your Book Summary
- Your Current Book Outline
Are you not sure what to name your characters? Not to worry—Enchanting Letters can help you with that as well. Simply select the character name generator from the menu and answer the questions it asks you.
Step 4
At this point in the writing process, it’s time to really take a look at each chapter of your book. Just as your book has an outline, so should each chapter. Now select Produce Chapter Beats from the menu and answer the questions that it asks you. When you press submit, it will produce a unique outline just for the given chapter (you’ll want to do this for every chapter in your book). This will be like a step-by-step guide on how to write that specific chapter that you can actually use to write the chapter itself or to help the AI write the chapter for you.
What are Chapter Beats?
A beat is a small moment that moves a story forward, and a group of beats can build a chapter. Beats can be micro-interactions that convey details about story events, characters, or the world of the story to readers. They can include actions, gestures, observations, or shifts in tone or emotional arc. Beats can occur around dialogue, such as before or after a character speaks, or they can be internal monologues. Beats are often a sentence or two long but can be half a sentence or more.
With chapter beats, writing the chapter itself becomes sort of like filling in the blanks. It really does make the entire writing process so much easier.
A chapter (or story) beat is a small unit of the story. In the case of our sample story above, we know three things that happen in chapter 1.
⦁ Detective Alex Carter is introduced.
⦁ Victoria Lancaster’s body is discovered in her penthouse.
⦁ Initial investigation begins; Alex is assigned to the case.
But that’s the big picture. When it comes to writing the actual chapter 1, you want more specific details. The beats for my sample story include 21 beats and 75 specific things that will happen. Let’s take a closer look at the beat sheet for chapter 1 of Betrayal.
Don’t worry, the Enchanting Letters Ai will produce these for you. I just want to show you a sample of real chapter beats that I had it produce for me, so that you can get a better idea of how the whole process works.

These beats provide a detailed guide for writing Chapter 1 of your detective mystery, ensuring a rich, engaging, and emotionally resonant start to your story.
Step 5
Once you’ve produced the beats for every chapter in your book, it’s time to sit down and really read them. Don’t just assume the AI will kick out the perfect beats exactly how you want your story told. Read the beats and change up anything you don’t like or want to happen differently. The beats are the little details of your story and it’s important you take the time to review them so the story will be written exactly like you want it.
Now once you’ve fine tuned your chapter beats and got them in the way that you like them, it’s time to actually start writing your story.
Writing Your First Chapter
Once you are ready, select Write a Full Chapter from the menu and then answer the questions it will ask you, such as what chapter you are writing, do you want it written in first or 3rd person narrative, etc. Below is the first chapter it wrote for my sample book, “Betrayal.” Keep in mind the length of the chapter will be based on how many chapter beats you feed it. The more beats = the longer the chapters.
Chapter 1: The Discovery
The city that never sleeps throbbed beneath a bruised, pre-dawn sky. New York, a symphony of honking taxis, rumbling garbage trucks, and the distant siren song of emergency vehicles, was a creature of glorious contradictions. Opulence and grit coexisted, separated only by thin veils of concrete and glass. Detective Alex Carter, a man who moved comfortably in the shadows of the city’s underbelly, knew this dichotomy well.
He stood at his kitchen window, the weak light filtering through the grime on the glass, and watched the city slowly come alive. His reflection, etched with the weariness of countless sleepless nights and etched deeper by a past that clung to him like a shroud, stared back. The lines around his eyes weren’t just from age; they were a roadmap of every case he’d carried, every victim he couldn’t save. He took a long sip of his coffee, the bitter brew a necessary jolt to kickstart his day, his ritual before facing the daily dose of human darkness.
Justice, he thought, is a fickle mistress. He’d dedicated his life to her pursuit, sacrificing pieces of himself along the way. The ghosts of unsolved cases whispered in his ear, a constant reminder of the battles he fought, both internal and external.
The shrill ring of his phone shattered the quiet. It was Captain Miller, his voice tight with a familiar urgency. “Carter, we need you down at The Grand. High profile, possible homicide. Lancaster. Victoria Lancaster.”
Alex felt a familiar tightening in his chest, the adrenaline mixed with a grim sense of duty. Victoria Lancaster. The name echoed with wealth and privilege. He grabbed his jacket, the worn leather familiar and comforting, a shield against the world. As he descended into the city’s maelstrom, his mind was already sifting through the possibilities, piecing together the fragments of information.
The Grand was a monolith of glass and steel, a testament to the city’s unwavering ambition. It stood aloof and indifferent, its pristine facade a stark contrast to the swarm of police cars and flashing lights that had gathered at its base. Yellow tape crisscrossed the sidewalk, holding back a throng of onlookers, their faces a mixture of morbid curiosity and fear.
Officer Rodriguez, a young cop with eager eyes and a nervous energy that Alex recognized from his own early days, met him at the entrance. “Detective Carter,” he said, his voice a hushed reverence. “The victim’s on the top floor. Penthouse.”
The elevator ride was a silent ascent, punctuated only by the hum of the machinery. Alex used the time to review the scant details he had. Victoria Lancaster, socialite, philanthropist, wife to Richard Lancaster, a titan of Wall Street. The image of a glamorous life, shattered.
Stepping into the penthouse was like stepping into another world. A world of breathtaking views, exquisite art, and a silence that was more unsettling than any scream. The air hung heavy with the scent of lilies and a faint, metallic tang that Alex recognized instantly.
Victoria Lancaster lay in the center of the living room, a splash of crimson against the pristine white rug. She was dressed in a silk evening gown, her auburn hair fanned around her like a halo. Her eyes, wide and vacant, stared up at the ornate ceiling. Even in death, she was breathtakingly beautiful.
The forensics team moved around her like silent wraiths, their flashlights cutting through the gloom. Dr. Taylor, the lead forensic analyst, gave Alex a curt nod. “No obvious signs of trauma,” he said, his voice low. “Possible poisoning or suffocation. We’ll know more after the autopsy.”
Alex crouched beside the body, his gaze meticulous. He noticed a tipped-over crystal glass near her hand, its contents a sticky residue on the carpet. Scattered around her were pieces of what looked like a broken pearl necklace. The air was thick with the cloying scent of her perfume, a subtle blend of jasmine and something else, something sharp and metallic.
“Mr. Daniels, the concierge, found the body,” Officer Rodriguez said, gesturing to a frail, elderly man huddled in a corner. His face was pale, his hands trembling.
Alex approached him slowly, his voice gentle. “Mr. Daniels? I’m Detective Carter. Can you tell me what happened?”
The old man’s voice was shaky, his words punctuated by shallow breaths. “I…I had a key. For emergencies. She…Mrs. Lancaster… she hadn’t been seen for a few days. I went to check on her…and…” He trailed off, unable to continue.
“It’s alright, Mr. Daniels. Just take your time,” Alex reassured him.
The concierge continued, his voice barely a whisper. “She had been acting strangely lately. Late-night visitors. She seemed… anxious.”
“Visitors?” Alex asked, his senses sharpening. “Can you describe them?”
Mr. Daniels shook his head, his eyes filled with a distant fear. “I…I didn’t see them clearly. Always late at night. They never stayed long.”
Alex absorbed the information, committing every detail to memory. He spent the next hour meticulously exploring the penthouse, searching for any clue that might shed light on Victoria’s final days. The apartment was a testament to her refined taste – elegant furniture, a collection of rare books, photographs of her smiling, surrounded by friends and family. But beneath the surface of perfection, Alex sensed a darkness lurking, a hidden secret waiting to be uncovered.
He found her diary on a small writing desk tucked into a corner of the bedroom. The leather-bound book felt heavy in his hands, a tangible link to the woman whose life had been so abruptly extinguished. He carefully flipped through the pages, his eyes scanning the elegant script. The entries were a mix of mundane details and cryptic pronouncements, a window into a life that was slowly unraveling.
He paused at a recent entry, underlined in red ink. “Meeting with M tomorrow. He knows. I’m scared.”
A chill snaked down his spine. Who was M? And what did he know?
Alex closed the diary, a sense of foreboding settling over him. He looked out the window at the city below, the sun now a pale sliver in the morning sky. He felt the weight of the case settle on his shoulders, the familiar ache of responsibility mixed with a profound sense of sadness. He had seen this before, the beautiful facade hiding a web of secrets and lies. He knew this case would be a descent into the darkness, a journey that would test him to his limits.
He gathered his team, a small but dedicated group of detectives who had seen their share of the city’s underbelly. He briefed them on the details, emphasizing the importance of discretion. Victoria Lancaster’s death would be a media frenzy, and they needed to keep their investigation tight.
As the team dispersed, the first wave of reporters arrived, a hungry pack clamoring for information. Alex faced them with a stoic expression, giving a brief, noncommittal statement. He knew the media could be both a blessing and a curse, and he needed to control the narrative.
His phone buzzed. It was his sister, Emma. “Alex, I saw the news. Are you alright?” Her voice was laced with concern.
“I’m fine, Em,” he reassured her, forcing a lightness he didn’t feel. “Just a long day ahead.”
He hung up, feeling the familiar pang of guilt. His job took a toll on everyone around him, especially Emma. He pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand.
He returned to his office, the silence a welcome reprieve from the chaos of the crime scene. He reviewed his notes, the words swimming before his eyes. He was tired, bone-tired, but he couldn’t rest. Not yet. Not until he knew who had taken Victoria Lancaster’s life and why.
He spent the rest of the night poring over records, chasing down leads, and piecing together the fragments of Victoria’s life. He felt a growing sense of unease, a feeling that this case was more than just a homicide. It was a puzzle with missing pieces, a story waiting to be told.
As he finally locked up his office, the city outside was still a hive of activity. He walked home, the cool night air a welcome balm on his skin. He felt the weight of the city pressing on him, the weight of its secrets and its sorrows. He was just one man, trying to make sense of it all.
He arrived home to the comforting silence of his apartment. He made a cup of tea, the warmth soothing his tired muscles. He sat by the window, watching the city lights twinkle in the distance. He knew he wouldn’t sleep much. The nightmares would come, as they always did, bringing with them the faces of the victims he couldn’t save.
He closed his eyes, picturing Victoria Lancaster’s lifeless face. He would find her killer. He owed her that much. He owed it to all the victims who haunted his dreams.
He drifted off to sleep, the city lights casting long shadows across his face. The case had just begun, and he knew it would take him down a dark and dangerous path. But he was ready. He had been ready for a long time. He was a detective, and this was his city. And he would not rest until justice was served.
